I'm Back!

A short hiatus rendered this blogger nothing if not completely sore, burnt out on moving and boxes and praising whatever that I have the best friends and family in the whole, wide world.

Backyard Veggies has MOVED.

Approximately 15 minutes away from where I was previously.

Er - I'm not super good at staggering change.

Let us not dwell on the fact that we now live a mere 5 minutes away from our old apartment (the luv nest of our days prior to parenthood). We will instead look at the blank canvas that is this new homestead (a little under a 1/4 acre - didn't I say I suck at change?) and paint it with imaginary lines of where future beds will be, where worm bins will hunker, and where chickens already scratch away.

Some interesting changes:
*I now live with carpet. Everywhere. I'm not thrilled with that. But it's a trade off to the ginormous back yard.
*I live now in a two story house. Of which I haven't done since the days of yore when I was yet a scant teenager.
*I have a bigger kitchen!
*I have two garden windows in which to grow herbs and piss the H off more.
*I have a bunch of redneck neighbors. We are the only residents without a truck.
*I live closer now to everything and everyone possible. Except work. Longer drive but worth it.
*Apparently this house is so big that I just got a text from the H. Who is upstairs. We just turned into those guys.
*I've got a soap cool room!! And space to start seeds and chicks! I'm grinning from ear to ear! Exclamation point!

I have mentally sketched out beds. I have mentally sketched out the rabbit hutch that will soon dot the landscape. I have learned that I have WAY too much shit and most of it I don't use, so there will be even more material pruning. I have discovered that installing chicken wire is OH SO MUCH easier than taking it out. And that bindweed can suck my substantial ass.

Other than that the Backyard Veggies Crew is happy, healthy and back to our old tricks. Internet is up. Kitchen is unpacked. The animals are bedded down and secure.

The slant of this blog will change just a touch. The title will stay the same but the content may focus more on animals and butchering and small scale farming. I'm finding my attention is going in that direction.

But for now it's on to dinner. In my new kitchen. With the garden window. In my bigger house. That is full of carpet.

XO Lindsey

  2. I see enough room for a Nigerian or two. So much room that H won't even notice it. If you hurry he might think it's the neighbor's.

  3. Michele - It is super nice to have a fresh start. More so than I anticipated. And the new yard is BEGGING for beds of vegetables. Last night I swear I heard it calling to me.

Wendy - You are hilarious. I'm pretty sure he would notice. Although it's almost worth it considering how much ivy and blackberry vines populate this yard!
